‘A slice of family life that is full of innocence and appeal.’ – Stage Whispers

The Darling Buds of May tells the story of Ma and Pop Larkin and their six happy children as they lead a quiet, pictureperfick life in the country. Surrounded by cows, pigs, horses and chickens, the Larkins don’t have a care in the world – until the day they come home and find Mr Charlton waiting to speak to Pop about something very important – a form from the tax office!

As the play unfolds there are stolen kisses, lovers’ tiffs, jealous challengers and one or two surprising announcements.

Everyone of a certain age will remember with great fondness Pam Ferris and David Jason charming us all with their Ma and Pop Larkin and who can forget Catherine Zeta-Jones exploding onto our screens as the beautiful temptress Mariette.

This is a TV play with a difference – being an adaptation of his own book, H.E. Bates retains the depth of character whilst also allowing the audience to experience and remember what they loved about the original show.
