In 1949 a struggling American writer, hoping to indulge her love of beautiful books, started a correspondence with a firm of British antiquarian booksellers, which was to last for 20 years.

The warm, compassionate and very human exchange of letters was published as a book and is here lovingly adapted for the stage.
