Double scoop for theatre’s summer show
GROVE Park Theatre in Wrexham has scored a double triumph at The Clwyd Community Theatre Awards with its highly acclaimed production of Alan Bennett’s Habeas Corpus.
The show, which was a massive hit with audiences and critics when it closed the theatre’s 2011/12 season in July, secured the trophy for best overall production. In addition, the theatre’s artistic director David Underwood was awarded the trophy for best performance for his portrayal of ageing lothario Dr Arthur Wicksteed.
The play’s director Sarah Giles, making her Grove Park debut in the directorial chair, said: “I am delighted that everyone’s hard work has paid off in such style. This award is a tribute to dozens of people on stage and off who help to make Grove Park’s productions so professional in standard and so enjoyable for our loyal audiences.”
The awards are issued every year for the outstanding theatrical production in the Clwyd region, with competitors drawn from Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham.
Grove Park Theatre has crowned its success at the awards with a record-breaking start to the 2012/13 season thanks to a sell-out production of ‘Me and My Girl’, with the standard set to continue in the forthcoming production of Emlyn Williams’ classic comic thriller ‘Night Must Fall’, which opens on Thursday October 18.
